Applications are handled through the Graduate Admissions Office of Universidad Carlos III. Admission decisions are taken by the Graduate Admissions Committee of the Department of Economics. Admissions are highly selective. Every year the program receives around 350 applications for an incoming class of 20-25 students. Most student receive financial aid.

The Graduate Program in Economics consists of a 2-year Master in Economic Analysis followed by a 3 year PhD in Economics. The program is entirely in English. All students interested in the PhD program should apply to the Master in Economic Analysis. After satisfactorily completing the required coursework of the Master in Economic Analysis, those students who perform well and pass qualifying examinations in the three major fields (macroeconomics, microeconomics, and econometrics) are admitted to the PhD program.

There are three deadlines for applications: February 28, May 31st, and June 20th, 2017.
