Official Postgraduate Programme in Economics is made up of 2 years of Master in Economic Analysis and 2 years of Ph.D. in Economics. The objective of the Master is to train specialists to carry out academic work and research in different areas of the economy as well as professional work that requires advanced economic knowledge in different areas of public and private sectors. This training is geared to meet the required academic excellence for.

In the two years of the PhD program, the student will focus on a full-time basis to complete their training in reserach methods in order to prepare and submit a dissertation consisting of original research in economics. All dissertation are supervised under the tutelage of a professor of the Department of Economics.

The Graduate Program is a member of the ENTER inter-university network (European Network for Training in Economic Research), a joint initiative of eight of the best economics departments in Europe, all with graduate programs in international prestige: Barcelona (Universitat Autonoma)Brussels (Free University), Mannheim, Stockholm, Tilburg, Toulouse, London (University College) and Universidad Carlos III. The network organizes exchanges of doctoral students between these departments and an annual conference.

The Department of Economics at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid aims towards academic quality. In a recent study prepared by R. Amir and M. Knauff (2005) the Department of Economics is ranked the 32nd in the world based on the employment obtained by Ph.D. students.
