| The
Graduate Program in Economics consists of a two-year Master
in Economic Analysis and a two-year PhD in Economics. The
Master’s program provides training geared towards
academic and research work in the different economic fields.
Its main objective is to provide prospective students with
the strong academic foundations necessary for pursuing PhD
studies. It likewise prepares highly qualified professionals
with marked expertise in Economics to work in the public
and the private sector.

In the PhD studies, students
will be engaged in full-time research towards the completion
of a doctoral dissertation, under the supervision of a faculty
advisor. Through the course of the program, the student
will learn how to design, execute and present a research
project, and produce journal-quality research papers which
comprise their doctoral dissertation.
This Graduate Program is a
member of the European Network for Training in Economic
Research (ENTER), an initiative by eight of the leading
economics departments in Western Europe, all of them with
international graduate programs: Barcelona (Universitat
Autonoma), Brussels (Free University), Mannheim, Stockholm
(joint graduate programme), Tilburg, Toulouse, UCL and Universidad
Carlos III. The network organises extended exchanges of
research students between the participating departments
and a annual workshop.
The Department of Economics
of Universidad Carlos III de Madrid is committed to academic
excellence. In a recent study by R. Amir and M. Knauffen
(2005), the Department of Economics was ranked 32th in the
World in terms of placement of outgoing PhD students.
