4th Annual Conference on"Railroad Industry Structure, Competition and Investment"October 19th -21st 2006
We invite interested scholars and others to participate in the 4th Annual Conference on Railroad Industry Structure, Competition, and Investment to be held at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Spain, October 19th-21st, 2006. This conference is jointly organized by the Institut D’Economie Industrielle (IDEI) at Toulouse, the Transportation Center at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) in London, the Department of Economics of the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) and the Department of Applied Economics of the Universidad de Las Palmas (ULPGC). This is an international forum open to professional economists, policymakers and managers. Research on the railroad industry around the world will be presented and discussed. We will compare experiences across countries, analyse some of the industry main problems, debate theoretical issues and discuss case studies. We encourage participation of scholars and practitioners interested in railroad economics and related fields, such as regulatory and industrial economics, productivity analysis, finance or labour economics. The First Railroad Conference was held in Toulouse in 2003 and
focused on the restructuring of the European passenger rail network.
The Second Conference in 2004, at Evanston, emphasized the restructuring
of freight railroad services. The Third Conference in 2005 at
Stockholm was devoted to the comparative analysis of railroad
systems. The Fourth Conference will focus on the development of
high-speed networks, the overall role of the railroad industry
